Attorney at Law
Senior member of the Entertainment, Business Transactional, Intellectual Property, and Civil Litigation section
Chris Skinner’s path to Music City began long before he even realized it. Born in Memphis, TN, some of his most cherished childhood memories are of nothing more than him plunked down in front of a beat-up baby grand piano listening to his grandfather play old Hoagy Carmichael tunes. Thirty some-odd years later, that same piano now sits in his own home here in Nashville. Chris made the move to Music City the first chance he had after graduating from law school at the University of Mississippi.
He almost didn’t finish his legal studies, however, until he realized that he could combine his love for music and the law with entertainment law. Now, he can speak the language of musicians and songwriters seeking legal help in Music City and beyond. His familiarity with the entertainment industry is rooted in his childhood memories of his grandaddy’s piano, followed by learning the guitar and venturing into songwriting. It was playing in smoky bars and sorority crawfish boils at Ole Miss that allowed Chris to pay for law school.
Chris joined the Gordon Law Group in 2015 and quickly expanded his practice areas beyond entertainment. Though he primarily focuses on serving the needs of Nashville’s creative community, Chris provides a wide array of other legal services. He firmly believes that an attorney should be versatile in order to best serve the needs of his clients, and his current specialties include entertainment, intellectual property, wills, trust, probate & conservatorships, litigation, and small business consultation. Chris is equipped with a passion for music that fueled his path to be a practicing attorney today, as well as real world experience that developed a hard work ethic.
